The Lanco group is deeply committed to fulfilling its responsibility as a corporate citizen. It believes in proactively promoting the public interest by encouraging community growth and development in locations close to its operations. It is for this reason that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is integrated into the group’s core business strategy and the Lanco family is encouraged to internalise this concept and use it in day-to-day work.

Lanco Infratech Limited, a member of the UN Global Compact, is already recognised for its good corporate governance and CSR initiatives. Its CSR initiatives are led by the Lanco Foundation (earlier known as LIGHT), the CSR arm of the Lanco group, established in 2000 under the Indian Trust Act. The Foundation has been spearheading welfare and development activities in the fields of Health, Education, Neighbourhood Community Development, Environment, and Rehabilitation of the Physically Challenged across 11 states of India.

To bring greater focus to its CSR activities, the Lanco leadership has been making several far-reaching policy and strategic decisions since 2007. As a result, the group now has a clearly enunciated CSR framework, policy statement, governance structure, delineation of strategic domains, communication framework and implementation plan in place. A 10-year perspective plan in four areas -- Disability Welfare, Safe Drinking Water, Eye Care and Orphanage – has been developed along with budgets for 2009-2014.
